The economic benefits of graduate education have steadily increased over the last few decades. According to a paper recently published by the Federal Reserve, the wage gap between workers with an undergraduate degree only and an advanced degree grew from 11% in 1979 to 30% in 2013. The vast majority of that growth has occurred since 2000, which is largely attributable to technological innovation. The most secure and well-compensated jobs in today's economy are those that require higher-order reasoning abilities, and these skills are generally learned at the graduate level. Jobs that involve routine cognitive tasks rather than original thinking or abstract reasoning are highly vulnerable to automation. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that workers with advanced degrees earn a median of about $10,000 per year more than their colleagues with a bachelor's degree only. However, the salary gains are much more pronounced for alumni of prestigious graduate programs, especially in fields such as technology, healthcare, or business. The GRE, as a graduate school admissions test, is ultimately an assessment of the reasoning abilities necessary to thrive in the 21st century economy.

Manhattan Review's GRE prep courses and private tutoring have helped our students get accepted to elite graduate-level programs at Harvard, Yale, Princeton, the University of Pennsylvania, Dartmouth, Stanford, MIT, Johns Hopkins, the University of Virginia, Georgetown, Carnegie Mellon, UC Berkeley, and many more. Meet a Singapore GRE Tutor: Donny L.

Donny L., originally from Wichita Falls, Texas, has been a Manhattan Review GRE tutor in the United States and Singapore since 2008. He holds a bachelor's degree in physics from Indiana University and a master's degree in education from Boston University. His GRE verbal and quantitative scores were in the 99th percentile of all test-takers, and his SAT scores were in the top 2%.

Donny's students credit his GRE teaching with improving their test scores and general academic aptitude. "My GRE prep course with Donny brought my sectional GRE scores up by more than 25%," said one student. "But I also learned how to study more effectively, and this was an even greater benefit to my graduate school career." Donny's favorite hobbies are reading science magazines, travel, and playing squash.
